Boardwalk & Main is composed of six young and talented musicians who love to create an atmosphere that encourages others to let loose and enjoy themselves! The band began playing its first shows on the boardwalks of Ocean City, NJ and Harsen’s Island, MI before returning home to the Twin Cities to play locally.
The Winterm’n are Buddy Ferrari and Al Waisley, two traditional folk songsm’n from St. Paul. They play their own arrangements of old Irish, Scottish and American songs, primarily ones that were collected from the Great Lakes region. They lay these weary old songs on a comfortable bed of guitar and tuck them into silken sheets of bouzouki. These sweet boys especially love to sing songs from the Midwest about people drowning in rivers, robbing banks, and dying in long-ago wars.
musician Lonnie Knight passed away on May 7, 2017
after a courageous battle with cancer. He was in the
process of preparing for a tour later in the summer
with former band mates and long-time collaborators
Barbara With and Fredy Argir.
Knight, With and Argir toured together in the mid-70s
performing their original music in the Midwest and
Texas. With and Argir will be going forward with the
Missing Man Tour and are dedicating the tour to
Lonnie’s incomparable songwriting, unparalleled
guitar playing, and a career that spans six decades.
They will be performing many of Lonnie’s songs, as well as songs of theirs that he covered,
and music they have written for and performed with him through the years.
Barbara With is a long-time Minnesota songwriter and performer who got her start on the
West Bank in the 1970s. She has earned several music awards through the years, including
Yahama Ticketmaster Best Unsigned Band contest, favorite female soloist, and a John
Lennon Songwriting Award recognition for her song Voices in the Wind. She is also the
author of six books and lives in Lake Superior on Madeline Island.
Fredy Argir was born in Hibbing, MN and has worked most of his life out of Austin, Texas.
He traveled for decades performing his original music and has recorded and released over
a dozen albums. In the mid-1990s he spent five years at Dell Computer before building his
Austin recording Studio and returning to the music industry for another decade. Fredy is
also a published author, poet, and photographer.
Special guests William Smith (harmonica), George Traugott (bass, concertina) and Richard
Grossman (percussion) will appear at select performances.
